History

Traditionally the scoreboard was a very large dry erase board on a wooden frame with legs, it was custom built by many volunteers from Troop 72 (Westfield, NJ) and lasted about 30 years which was a blessing.

In 2018, we went digital tracking the Klondike Derby data in an Excel spreadsheet and retired the original scoreboard as it was a pain to store and tedious to set it up each year. By tracking the scoring in a spreadsheet, we were able to provide timlier updates on towns visited by the sleds throughout the day of the event, as well as crown the Top 3 Scout & Senior sled winners the day of the event and not have to wait a week or two to find out.

We will now be using a web site and a database to deliver the same results as a spreadsheet, but even faster. On this site you will find the latest scores for the current Klondike Derby when it is running, as well as see the scores from previous years starting wtih 2018.

How are Final Scores Calculated?

(Total Nuggets [# of Nuggets earned x 10]) - (Total Elapsed Course Time [In Minutes]) + (Penalties - Wait Time [Sled delay at a Town]) = Final Score

For example: 930 - 240 [4 hours] = 690
